Everyone has attachments and is therefore in denial about something. Becoming attached to people, places, things, situations, thought and beliefs is a normal and unavoidable part of the human experience. However, when our attachments are causing harm, we have the option of either increasing our levels of denial, or facing the suffering and adapting in a healthy way. No one can force us to change in any meaningful manner, it is something that we need to be ready for and we must be willing to learn new things.
If you are hurting, frustrated, overwhelmed and just sick of how your life has been going, you may be hitting bottom now. Bottom is not a one time event, it is an experience where we feel the absolute worst feelings, and have the worst kinds of thoughts. Hitting an emotional bottom is the beginning of recovery and is the first sign of hope, because until we can emotionally accept that we have a problem and need help, we are still in denial and no one can help us.
The process is this. Once we realize we have a problem and need help with it, we need to find something we can trust that will help back to safety. The concept of faith is encouraged in recovery and Mixed Recovery, Inc. places great value on identifying a source of inner peace as a benchmark for recovery. We also encourage the concepts of powerlessness and ask that participants commit to the process at all costs, knowing that the outcome will absolutely be better than if we stay in denial and refuse to change.
Once faith is established, participants are asked to complete an inventory process that helps them develop better understanding of themselves and their conditions. Following inventory, people enter into the house cleaning stages where we locate and heal our issues of shame, regret, guilt, fear, remorse and resentment. During the recovery process, we encourage participants to develop new daily routines and practices that reinforce the desire to change for the better. Provided the first 11 steps of recovery are completed with any level of honesty and transparency, the twelfth step is a natural happening and a percentage of the participants will become so changed that teaching acceptance is new part of their identity and lifestyle. We call these changed people, Sponsors and they are nonprofessionals who are qualified to show you the process, because they have gone through it themselves.
Below are short descriptions and suggestions for working the steps.
If you have accepted that you have a problem and are willing to listen to a new way of thinking, then that is a great sign... you have taken the first step of recovery. It is important to understand that the issue you are dealing with today is part of a collection of issues which can be identified and healed through the recovery process. In the next steps, we learn to have the courage to face what needs to be faced and put in the effort to get the results we want.
Faith is a misunderstood concept and in steps two and three we establish and reinforce our understanding and basis of faith. A belief that everything is going to get better is crucial for recovery, otherwise there is little to no reason to change. Faith in recovery may be all that is needed, but we need to believe that the process is greater than we are.
Many people struggle with the concept of powerlessness. The human ego wants to be in charge of our lives and cannot accept when things do not go our way. Unfortunately, when we are the most powerful thing in our lives then we live as an island in denial of what is really happening around us.
Mixed Recovery, Inc., is an Omnist company, meaning we recognize and support the healthy aspects of all belief systems. It is against our religion and company policy to convert people. Our goal is to take each persons belief systems and offer explanations for recovery that will not conflict with anything that is working for them already. In step two, we ask that each participant identify the times when they feel most peaceful and ask them to understand, that is our natural and unconditioned state outside of our attachments. This is meant to establish a benchmark for the healthiest state of being, Acceptance.
The process of recovery is meant to quite literally, reprogram our thoughts, the way we live and how we think about everything. Any and all areas of our lives that we cannot accept, need to be faced and resolved through the recovery process. Thankfully, we decide what, when and how we work on our personal concerns, the goal of recovery is to provide reliable tools to keep us constantly moving forward, even through our setbacks.
Mixed Recovery, Inc., encourages others through personal experience to trust the process of recovery, give yourself to it completely and you will experience a complete transformation into the person YOU most want to be. It is a slow and sometimes painful process, the rewards are a life better than we could have imagined for ourselves mostly as a result of better coping skills and a completely changed attitude.
There are many different tools and processes for self-awareness work and Mixed Recovery, Inc. hopes to be a primary source of wellness with the tools we are actively creating and promoting. We offer free and downloadable recovery sheets to the general public as well as online testing with free results. Our recovery sheets are based manly on the 12 steps and 12 traditions of AA, however we do not limit ourselves to that process and incorporate elements from other 12 step organizations and professions. It has been shown through accounts of personal experience, the recovery process is incomplete without personal accountability and healthy mirroring. The Mixed Recovery, Inc. company slogan is "Find someone SAFE and ask for help", because we hope to promote and provide people with this important and needed aspect of life. Confession is a basic human need and whether in or out of recovery, everyone deserves to be around and connect with people who accept them completely and encourage their personal successes. These people can be anyone and it is helpful to have several sources for acceptance and affirmation.
If you need someone, we are here for you. Please feel free to contact someone from our directory and continue your personal growth process with someone SAFE for you. Our directory consists of a combination of qualified sponsors and screened professionals. Mixed Recovery does not charge to promote it's members and we have nothing to do with their rates or the handling of their fees if any.
Once we have identified the things that are causing harm in in our lives, we need to to develop a daily process of inner reflection, keeping us focused on our personal goals and using a process that is proven effective. Step six and seven work together in developing the rituals humans need to overcome their adversities and adapt in a healthy manner to the life they are experiencing.
Each of the things we work on is at our own pace and by our choice, it is recommended that every participant create morning and evening rituals to help them reconnect with their source of inner guidance and inspiration for personal growth.
There is a concept known as the law of attraction that simply stated means that we attract, what we ask for and feel we deserve. For recovery to work, we need to accept that it will take some convincing for us to stick to the process. The human ego is traditionally lazy and prefers comfort over change. Thankfully, anything negative in our lives can be treated with daily rituals of willingness and surrender. In step 7, we are literally brainwashing our subconscious minds to accept the goals we have created for ourselves. Without these daily rituals, change is slow, painful and often non-existent.
Whether in prayer, meditation, journaling or self-talk, we encourage people to express the changes they want to the universe knowing that it is something that we ourselves need to hear. 12 Step recovery is often referred to as a program, because we are literally reprogramming our own damaged subconscious minds.
As humans learn, grow and adapt to life, we often feel compelled to take some form of action to correct how we feel about the past. Recovery is a shame removal system that allows us a simple process for dealing with the consequences of our past harms, to ourselves and others. It is suggested that we place ourselves at the top of the list, remembering that all of this work is for us and the better future we have been hoping for, one that is free from guilt shame and remorse.
There are two parts to this step, first is the list, second is creating the willingness to make an amends. Amends is a changed behavior and before we can change a behavior we need to isolate the behavior that needs to go. What was our part in the situation, how were were wrong and what would we do differently next time. For this process, we recommend using the Resentments worksheet in combination with the list of people we have harmed. Causing harm may have been intentional, it may have been because we did not consider their side of the story or maybe we just didn't know any better.
This step is not about apologizing, it is about confession if and when the opportunity arises. In many cases, confession is best sooner than later however when some time has passed and the first opportunity is no longer an option, sometimes we need to wait for a sign. Forcing an apology to rid ourselves of shame can be counterproductive and unnecessary stress for everyone involved.
Becoming willing to make an amend, changes a person and their attitude. towards the future. Unwilling to change or admit faults, keeps us trapped in shame, regret, remorse, resentment and ultimately hurting everyone including ourselves. More than anything, step nine asks us to have the courage to speak up about our shortcomings in past conflicts if and when the opportunity arises through natural events. We encourage people to become peaceful and check with their inner guidance about how and when action needs to be taken. Often, the opportunities occur with surprising perfection without anything more than our willingness to create them. Have faith, the time for change will come and when it does you will be ready for it.
Once a process for inventory has been created, we need to include daily self-awareness checks as part of our new self-care rituals, aka, religion. Mixed Recovery, Inc., has a very broad and caring definition for religion, we feel they are any chosen self-care rituals. These new rituals become part of a culture with the people we share support with and therefore, can also be referred to as a cult. Mixed Recovery, Inc. recognizes the words cult and religion trigger many people and ask that you keep an open mind about these concepts, that they are not globally bad or wrong. We have found healthy practices in several belief systems and feel certain that if your beliefs are not causing any harm, we support you.
Please allow daily inventory work to become part of your self-care rituals because it has been proven to be the most effective way to deal with the circumstances of life. Fearless honesty means, remaining accountable to ourselves and others. It is a more peaceful way of living.
The human ego is a powerful force that needs to be conditioned in order to get the results we are hoping for in life. Most of recovery is designed to diminish our attachments, making us more peaceful and experiencing higher levels of acceptance. Daily prayer and or meditation is recommended by this step and Mixed Recovery, Inc. as a means to keep the ego humble and the human mind free from the tendency to overthink about the things we want out of life.
Manly, this step helps us resolve humans innate desire to control the circumstances of our lives and teaches us to be grateful for the life that is already happening for us, completely outside of our control.
Everyone in recovery experiences this step differently and at various stages of their own recovery. Many people are still working on serious issues in recovery, yet they can still be perfectly qualified to sponsor others provided they are honest about their conditions and what they are doing to manage them. It has been illustrated on numerous occasions that no one can understand another person better, than someone who has gone through the same sort of experiences. It is a question of relating. Without any point of reference, people are incapable of truly knowing what someone else is going though.
Those of us who have gone through the 12 steps of recovery with a sponsor understand as few others can the nature of our conditions and what is effective in managing the difficulties of our lives. Speaking to someone who is healed and like us, often means the difference between growth or denial. It is strange to discover that for many of the people in recovery, the changes are so profound in their characters that they can no longer live with themselves, unless they are doing something daily to support the growth of others. If you are one of these such people who has completed a recovery process with another qualified person, please consider joining the Mixed Recovery Team.
These are the promises made to everyone who completes an honest 12 step recovery program with a qualified sponsor. We feel that these promises are universally true and give Alcoholics Anonymous full credit for this success.
The AA Promises
Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them. Alcoholics Anonymous p83-84
